What is an audiogram?

An audiogram is a graph that shows the audible threshold for standardized frequencies as measured by an audiometer. The Y axis represents intensity measured in decibels and the X axis represents frequency measured in hertz.

An audiometry exam tests how well your hearing functions. It tests both the intensity and the tone of sounds, balance issues, and other issues related to the function of the inner ear. A doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating hearing loss called an audiologist administers the test.

What is an audiogram used for?

Results from a hearing test are displayed on an audiogram. An audiogram is a graph that shows the softest sounds a person can hear at different pitches or frequencies. … The audiogram shown below indicates the different degrees of hearing loss.
